Fisherman’s Bastion

Offering Perfect Panoramic Views of Pest

Fisherman’s Bastion is located in the centre of Castle District and is a magnificent neo-Gothic terrace with fairytale-style turrets, parapets and climbing stairways. Situated on the banks of the River Danube, on the top of Castle Hill, Fisherman’s Bastion offers, what is considered to be, the most impressive panoramic views of the Pest side of the city, and of Margaret Island and Hungarian Parliament.

This beautiful landmark was built between 1895 and 1902, based on the designs of architect Frigyes Schulek. It has seven significant towers, said to represent each Magyar tribe that arrived in Hungary in 896. It is believed, that the site of the Bastion, used to be a fisherman’s village, and this is where the name originates from, in addition to the Guild of Fishermen, that defended part of the castle wall. The neo-gothic design of the Fisherman’s Bastion, is similar to that of the neighbouring Matthias Church.

Fisherman’s Bastion is just one of Budapest’s historic landmarks that are easily accessible from any of our Budapest apartments, offering fantastic stylish self-catering accommodation in the centre of Budapest.
