F1 Hungarian Grand Prix
The F1 Hungarian Grand Prix consistently proves to be a great event for the Budapest diary, with thousands of visitors flocking each year to enjoy the electric atmosphere. The finest international F1 drivers race in the town of Mogyoród, located 20km from Budapest, with past champions including Lewis Hamilton, Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher.
The circuit is well known for its complex layout and bumpy surface, making overtaking manoeuvres tricky. With the track located in a valley, great spectator areas can be found to enjoy the race, along with many large screen TVs to capture the out of sight action.
The first Hungarian Grand Prix took place in 1936, however, war and politics prevented the event from repeating for 50 years. Taking place in the peak of the European summer makes concentration for the drivers even more challenging, and, in addition to the guaranteed heat, the Hungarian Grand Prix was the only venue with a rain-free track record until 2006.
Due to its popularity with locals and tourists alike, and consistent sponsorships, the Hungarian Grand Prix is assured to continue for years to come. Visitors who have pre-booked tickets can travel to the venue by bus supplied by the F1 organisers. Buses depart from the Pest side the Árpád Bridge, which is conveniently located to many of our Budapest apartments.
