Prague Zoo
Prague Zoo is located a few kilometres north of the city centre, however it is certainly worth venturing out to, providing a great day out for all the family on your city break. Prague Zoo was acclaimed one of the world’s best zoos, by Forbes Traveller Magazine in 2008 and currently has over 5,000 animals from over 650 species.
Prague Zoo was seriously affected by the floods of 2002, being situated on the banks of the River Vltava, with flood levels reaching over 10 metres. The Zoo evacuated most of the animals and over time has rebuilt itself and many of the 20 buildings that were damaged as a result of the flooding. Prague Zoo received significant donations world-wide that aided with the redevelopment, and the zoo now boasts fantastic public areas and refurbished animal enclosures.
Prague Zoo has a real emphasis on learning and has a range of educational sessions throughout its daily programme. Conservation is also high on their agenda, with Prague Zoo contributing to the survival of the Przewalski Horse and participating with many other threatened species.
Prague Zoo is located north of the city centre and easily accessible from any Prague holiday apartment via bus. The zoo is open daily from 9am - 7pm during June, July and August, 9am - 6pm April, May, September and October, 9am - 5pm in March, and 9am - 4pm November, December, January and February, with a later closing time of 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays. A daily adult ticket costs 150CZK with children (3-15 years) from 100CZK.
