Tate Modern

London’s Gallery Dedicated to Modern Art

Tate Modern displays art dating from 1900 to present day, and is a great visit for art fanatics staying in London vacation rentals. Artists featured here showcase the best of the past century. With both temporary and permanent collections, Tate Modern was the first museum dedicated to modern art in London.

Permanent exhibits at Tate Modern include works that revolve around the four hubs of the gallery: Surrealism, Minimalism, post-war abstraction in Europe and the US, and the three linked movements—Cubism, Futurism, and Vorticism.

Both the temporary and the permanent exhibits in the Tate Modern show the finest trends in modern art. Tate Modern has a total of eleven galleries on seven floors to meet visitors’ needs. The Tate Collection overall has more than 60,000 works in its four locations.

It has proved to be very popular with the public attracting over 5 million visitors in the first year alone. With new visions of expanding, the Tate Modern is taking modern art to a new level.

With the perfect site on the Thames River, its 99-metre chimney is hard to miss. It is very centrally located, and is found very near the Globe Theatre, opposite to St. Paul’s Cathedral and the City of London, and also right on the bank of the Thames River.

Having a foot bridge from the gallery to the City and such a central position of public transport, to get to Tate Modern from your London apartment is quite easy. The closest tube stations to Tate Modern are Southwark, Mansion House, and St. Paul’s. Bus stops that will take you from your London apartment to Tate Modern include Blackfriars Bridge Road on routes 45, 63, and 100; Southwark Street on routes RV1 and 381; and Southwark Bridge Road on route 344.

The Tate Modern is open from Sunday to Thursday from 10.00 to 18.00, with the last admission at 17.15. On Friday and Saturday, hours are from 10.00 to 22.00, with last admission at 21.15. The Tate Modern is closed on 24, 25, and 26 of December, but is open as usual on 1 January. Admission to the Tate Modern is free, with the exception of major exhibits.

With a bit of art for everyone, Tate Modern is sure to please any visitor that walks through the door! Make sure to keep some time open to make the visit down from your London apartment.
