Berlinale
Berlinale, is the name given to Berlin’s International Film Festival, and is an annual event held in the German capital. Now in its 62nd edition, Berlinale continues to be a key event in the industry’s diary, attracting almost 20,000 professionals and 4,000 journalists from the global film and entertainment industry.
It’s not just professional critics that attend to pass judgement on the new productions being showcased, but with almost 300,000 tickets on sale, Berlinale is open to aspiring industry personnel and the general film-loving public. Each year, around 400 films are displayed from a variety of genres, and are segregated into categories as award nominations, including Berlinale Shorts, for discoveries into independent and radical productions; Panorama, for emerging art house cinema; Generation, for films targeted at a younger audience; Culinary Cinema, for documentaries regarding food, and Competition, for emerging international film talents.
Film professionals can take the opportunity to source new products and services and network at the European Film Market segment of the event, or attend the Berlinale Talent Campus to enhance their professional skills through coaching seminars.
Already the cultural hub of Germany, Berlin is no stranger to hosting art, film, glamour, and new media focussed parties and conferences, and Berlinale remains an established feature on its cosmopolitan diary. Berlinale is taking place from the 9th-19th February 2012 and is a great visit for film-fanatics staying in Berlin Vacation Apartments. The film festival is showcasing productions at various venues across the city, including the Colloseum, Cinema Arsenal, Delphi Filmpalast and Berlinale Palast - the main theatre to host the international film competition awards.
