Gaudi's Dream-Like Park with Stunning Views of the City

Visitors staying in Barcelona apartments should visit Guell Park - a spectacular garden and architectural complex. Guell Park is sat atop El Carmel hill in Barcelona. Designed by famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi, the park is a magical location and a must-see destination for anyone staying in our Barcelona apartments.

The initial development of the site was the idea of Count Eusebi Guell; his plan was to build an upper-class housing area which would benefit from the fresh air and spectacular views afforded by the location. However, the plan proved unsuccessful and only a couple of houses were ever fully built. In 1904, Guell offered one of the houses to Antoni Gaudi who took up the offer, bought the building and moved in with his family.

By 1914, Gaudi’s influence had transformed the park into what is now a truly spectacular location (Guell Park is now included within the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Works of Antoni Gaudi”). Now a municipal park, the area is hugely popular with tourists and locals. A trip to the park is highly recommended when staying in our Barcelona apartments.

Incredible stone structures, fanciful buildings and unique Gaudi tiles fill the park with a special ambience. Gaudi was heavily influenced by natural shapes and structures, the effect of which can be seen in the organically-inspired park structures. A colourful mosaic dragon greets visitors at the park entrance while fascinating pinnacle-effect roofs can be seen protruding from the park. For some spectacular views of Barcelona, head up to the large cross at the highest point of the park.

Entrance to the park is free but there is an admission fee for those wishing to enter La Torre Rosa, Gaudi’s former home. Inside is an interesting museum which contains furniture, drawings and other items designed by Gaudi himself. The park is generally open every day from 10.00am until 7.00pm (closing times are subject to seasonal variations) so there is always time to leisurely explore the grounds from our Barcelona apartments.

Guell Park, located in the Gràcia district, is easily reached from our Barcelona apartments. You can take the metro (Green Line, L3) and get out at the Lesseps stop. From here it is a 20 minute walk to the park (follow the signposts). There is quite a steep hill on the way; if that could cause difficulties then both taxis and buses are available at the metro station. Weekdays are often the best time to visit in order to avoid the large weekend crowds.
