Alpine Museum
Zermatt's Alpine Museum is located within the Month Cervin Hotel. A visit to the museum gives you insight into the history behind Zermatt's mountain climbing and introduces various famous alpinists, who have both succeeded and failed in this extreme activity.
The museum documents the first recorded attempt to climb the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise in 1792, in addition to the triumphant, yet tragic climb to the Matterhorn Summit, by Edward Whymper, which saw 4 of his climbing companions loosing their lives.
The Alpine Museum also has a variety of other displays from mountain climbing to ski equipment and historic artifacts to alpine flora and fauna. The museum is open during the winter months from 4.30 - 6.30pm Sunday through Friday, and during the summer months daily from 10am - noon and 4pm-6pm.
