Folklore Festival
The Zermatt Folklore Festival takes place every year in the second week of August. Since 1968, folklore groups from around Switzerland gather in the small village of Zermatt to sing, dance, and yodel away, celebrating their favorite tradition.
The main event at the Folklore Festival is the parade, which begins on Zermatt’s Bahnhofstrasse, the main street downtown. Food and drink are provided along with performances of music and dancing. Performers slowly wind down the avenue in eye-catching garb. The mass includes around 50 folklore groups and over 1,200 individual musicians, dancers, and yodellers that are sure to provide a variety of attractions. Amongst the groups, some even put on shows specifically for children. At the end of the parade, participants are so enthralled that performances continue into the night. Groups at the Zermatt Folklore Festival provide evening entertainment at the Obere Matten fairgrounds and at Kirchplatz Square.
Guests renting Zermatt apartments will enjoy a holiday in Zermatt during the Zermatt Folklore Festival. The contagious culture in the town towered by The Matterhorn Mountain will leave Zermatt apartment guests desiring more of the beautiful countryside.
