Summer Skiing
Summer is a superb time to book Zermatt accommodation. Skiing is available throughout the summer season. In some ways summer skiing is superior to winter skiing, possessing its very own unique and positive qualities. Much of the area available during the summer is suited for beginner and intermediate skiers, but the 20 kilometres of pistes also include difficult moguls. Zermatt is actually considered to be one of the best summer ski areas, as it is the largest and highest in Europe. Therefore, Zermatt draws quite a few international skiers and teams. Zermatt apartment guests might even find themselves alongside Olympic skiers whilst on summer holiday.
The best time of day to go skiing during the summer months is mid-morning. Lifts generally open at 7am and close at 2pm. It will be an early morning, but well worth it for the improved quality, as the snow tends to get wet and heavy later in the afternoon. You’ll also get an excellent view of the mountains in the early morning. When planning, allow at least 45 minutes for full ascent on the lifts, as the Zermatt peaks are high. Take in the indescribable view as you slowly scale the mountain.
Summer skiing is generally considered to be from June to November with exact dates changing annually. Check www.zermatt.ch for this year’s dates and prices. Passes are available for just one or two days, or the entire summer season. Daylong passes tend to be at least 80 Swiss Francs, 120 for two days. Several shops in the area rent ski equipment including Dorsaz-Sport, Glacier-Sport, and Bayard Sport + Fashion. Several ski schools near Zermatt accommodation offer private lessons. Schweizer Ski School offers private lessons that include lunch on the mountain with your instructor. European Snowsport also offers several private lesson options with cheaper pricing during off-peak weeks. Zermatt apartments listed here are those closest to European Snowsport. Expect to pay 200 Swiss Francs minimum for two hours at any school.
Summer skiing is reason to rent a Zermatt apartment this summer. Enjoy a morning of skiing on the mountain with the pros or participate in private lessons to learn more about the sport.
