Hiking
Hiking is a great way to explore the countryside during Zermatt summers. With a large percentage of the Zermatt area consisting of nature reserves, it isn’t surprising that there are more than 400 km of marked hiking and walking trails in the surrounding area. The five valleys surrounding Zermatt actually have over 70 individual trails, so you can try something new each and every time.
The large number of trails provides opportunities for hiking at a range of difficulties and on a variety of trail types. For example, the Täsch and Randa areas are best for those who enjoy hiking at higher altitudes. These peaks easily reach altitudes of 3,000 metres above sea level, providing an amazing alpine view. Those less keen on walking may want to stay closer to the village of Zermatt. Several trails lead right to the village, so it is convenient to access hiking paths whilst staying in a Zermatt apartment.
For an educational twist, guests are able to explore themed walking trails that help teach you about the area as you climb the peak. Other special tours include the Tour Matterhorn and Tour Monte Rosa. These tours are divided into parts that you are able to do separately for less strain. More information about these hikes can be found at www.tmr-matterhorn.ch/.
Hiking is a summer staple in Zermatt. Try out the seemingly endless footpaths and trails the next time you stay at a Zermatt apartment. The alpine scenery is sure to provide an experience like no other.
