Verbier Festival
Verbier Festival is a two and a half week classical music festival, typically taking place from late July to early August. The festival attracts world famous soloists and the best artists in the classical genre. Verbier Festival is without a doubt an increasingly international event, characteristically drawing in both talent and visitors from around the globe.
Martin T. Son Engström brought the Verbier Festival to the village of Verbier in 1994 aiming to prove that Verbier wasn’t just a winter family ski location. Contrarily, this mountain resort village can be enjoyed year-round. The summer time offers cycling, hiking, and now a world-renowned summer classical music festival.
Verbier Festival provides the option of either paying for entry into concerts with well-known artists or discovering young and upcoming talent through free events. Each day of Verbier Festival has ticketed concerts including those for the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, Verbier Festival Orchestra, and for several soloist performances. Tickets should be ordered online prior to Verbier Festival in order to guarantee seating. There are also several free activities each day including The Verbier Academy, Amateur Chamber Music Week, Discovery, and Fest’Off.
The Verbier Academy is a group of young talented students who meet for three weeks in Verbier to exchange ideas and play music together. They are chosen and grouped as tomorrow’s leaders in classical solo performance. Each day during the Verbier Festival they hold an open concert for the public.
During Amateur Chamber Music Week, Verbier Festival Academy alumni volunteer to be mentors for amateur students of all ages. Those students are able to play in Verbier in the week leading up to Verbier Festival and at an opening concert on the very first day of the festival. Amateur Chamber Music Week is a great opportunity for recreational players and provides a worthwhile performance for Verbier Festival guests.
Also at no charge are the Discovery activities for both children and adults. Discovery provides a forum for discussing music and the arts. Young people are welcomed to creative and instructive activities, while adults engage in conversation.
Finally, The Verbier Fest’Off adds to the excitement around the village through outdoor performance. Fest’Off allows visitors to explore the countryside while listening to a range of music. Ramblers will include several jazz musicians in addition to classical music artists. Music can be heard from sunrise to late in the evening throughout the village.
Verbier Festival proves that Verbier accommodation can by enjoyed year round. The summer months provide a whole new range of activities, with Verbier Festival in the forefront.
