When to visit Venice

High season in Venice is from June through August, with the highest numbers of visitors from July onwards. Venice is expensive and savings can be made during the low season (November through February) when temperatures are much colder although rarely extreme. Great deals can be had during the shoulder seasons of March through May and September/October. In summer: make the most of the canals, celebrate the Festival of Saint Peter, and don't miss the fireworks and regatta of the Festival of the Redeemer. In winter: the Carnival of Venice is a must, as is the Regatta delle Befane.

Getting to and around Venice

Venice is served by Marco Polo and San Giuseppe Airports. Both airports have bus services into the city and there is a fast ferry from Marco Polo. There are also many international rail services to Venice. The city is small and very easy to walk. Public transportation is provided by the water bus service, which is both frequent and affordable: water taxis are fast but expensive.
