This 'St Tropez' of Catalonia lies 35 km south of Barcelona. A vibrant but delightfully artistic and bohemian seaside resort, Sitges enchants visitors with its white-washed buildings and narrow winding cobble-streeted old town, palm lined sea front and plentiful manicured sandy beaches. The 'Barcelona-on-sea' is the favoured resort of wealthy Catalans, drawn by its stunning location, party atmosphere and lively gay scene. Sitges is a carnival town hosting the Spring Mardi Gras and August's Fiesta Major with its street parade of gegants or giant puppets and spectacular firework display. The town's two week 'fantasy' film festival runs in October. The flamboyant Gay Pride parade is in June. Visit the teetering cliff-top church of S. Bartomeu i Tecla; the museums of Cau Ferrat and Maricel with their modernist art collections, and Catalonia's world-famous Penedès vineyards. The town also boasts art galleries and studios.

When to visit Sitges

Nestled between the Garraf Massif and the Mediterranean, Sitges enjoys a sunny highly temperate microclimate. July and August are high summer with 27 degrees temperatures; October is the rainiest month, and January to April the coolest months. February/March and August Carnival and October film festival weeks are hectic with accommodation at a premium.

Getting to Sitges

The resort is served by Barcelona and Reus airports with direct UK flights taking approximately two hours. Air fares are competitively priced, especially out of season. Barcelona is approximately a 30 minutes taxi; 45 minute suburban train or Monbus ride away. Reus offers an easy train connection.
