Vilafranca Wine Museum
Vilafranca Wine Museum, or ‘Vinseum of Vilafranca’ is a great attraction to visit, not just for wine connoisseurs staying in Sitges holiday apartments, but for all holiday makers who appreciate a good Spanish wine. The Wine Museum is situated about 20km from Sitges, in Vilafranca – the capital of Catalonia’s most important wine region, the Penedès.
The historic town of Vilafranca boasts a strong wine culture, visible from its extensive landscape of beautiful vineyards, numerous wineries and the town’s Wine Museum. The museum documents the history behind the cultivation of the Penedès wine region, detailing the range of grape varieties on offer, and the famous brands that have emerged from the area, including Jean Leon and Miguel Torres. Visitors to the museum can enjoy a glass of white, red or popular Cava, that originate from the region.
The museum part hosts the Penedès Wine & Cava Film Festival, which launches its first edition in November 2011. The festival recognises films related to wine-making and will showcase a variety of genres, including artistic, scientific, documentary and promotional films. The festival also celebrates European Wine Tourism Day on the 13th November.
A visit to Vilifranca and the Wine Museum is a perfect day out from your Sitges holiday apartment. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am – 2pm and then again from 4pm – 7pm. On Sunday the museum is open from 10am – 2pm. General admission is €5, with a concession rate of €3 available to selected visitors.
