Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
Shakespeare’s Globe has become an iconic theatre in London due to its tradition and sense of history. Built on the very site where the original Globe that held Shakespeare’s plays stood, the theatre to this day upholds many of the values Shakespearean performers and audiences held, including an outside theatre without a roof. Shakespeare’s Globe hosts guided tours to dazzle you and give you an insight into the home of the finest play writer the world has ever seen, all within walking distance of our London apartments.
The original Globe Theatre was built in 1599 and was rebuilt before its demolition in 1644. However, Sam Wanamaker realised his dream of rebuilding the theatre with its original principles and atmosphere, with the Globe reopening in 1997. Since, it has held numerous original Shakespeare plays each year such as Hamlet and Romeo & Juliet, with all the original attire and themes that the plays of the 16th Century had too.
Shakespeare’s Globe also has an exhibition which will allow you to get a sense of the passion the actors have for the theatre and will bring Shakespeare’s work to life. The exhibition tour is priced at £12.50 for adults and is open every day of the year from 10am-5pm except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, meaning no matter what time of the year you rent London apartments you can be sure you’ll be able to visit this legendary theatre.
Southwark and London Bridge tube stations are the two closest to the Globe and both within walking distance, whilst the theatre is just south of the river over the Millennium Bridge. There really is no better place in the world to learn about the tradition and importance of Shakespeare’s work, making a visit to the Globe from one of our London apartments an absolute must for anybody with a passion of the arts.
