Wembley Stadium

The Second Largest Stadium in Europe

Wembley Stadium has been an iconic feature of London since 1923, and is the hub of all sporting and live music events. The stadium hosts the England Football Team’s home games, and is owned by the governing body - The Football Association. The New Wembley Stadium replaced what was originally known as the Empire Stadium, which was demolished in October 2000 to make way for the new development. Costing over £798 million, and taking almost 7 years to complete, New Wembley was finally unveiled in March 2007, just in time to host the FA Cup Final.

The stadium is the second largest in Europe, with a capacity of 90,000 spectators. It’s most prominent feature is the 134m high arch, which can be viewed from as far as 13 miles away, with a fantastic view form the Surrey Hills, in particular. Wembley has a retractable roof, and is the only stadium to offer all its spectators shelter from the elements. As with many of London’s buildings, the stadium is spectacular at night, illuminated by 258 floodlights, creating a dramatic halo effect.

In addition to hosting significant football events, Wembley is regularly transformed into a concert venue, featuring the likes of Madonna, Oasis and Take That.
