Downing Street
Located in Whitehall in Central London, Downing Street is synonymous for being the home of both the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The street has a long, proud tradition that dates back centuries and of housing the most senior cabinet members, and as such remains a popular hotspot for tourists. Although the street is protected by a gate for security reasons, you can still look down the famous street and see some of its typically London architecture, all within close proximity of our London Apartments.
The street was built in the 17th Century by Sir George Downing, whose picture now proudly stands in the home of the Prime Minster, 10 Downing Street. Many of the houses originally built have been replaced by government offices, yet the two most famous houses of numbers 10 and 11 still remain to this day. There is always a high level of security at the entrance to the street, however visitors who wish to look through the gates are still welcome to do so.
Besides Downing Street, many other famous London landmarks are close by including The Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace, giving you a great feel for the tradition of London within this grand part of the capital. Green Park is also nearby, a customarily British setting with an array of woodlands throughout the park.
Our London apartments close to Downing Street will allow you to see numerous sights that have a great place in British tradition, with Downing Street a huge part of this. With superb tube links all around the street, getting to and from it couldn’t be easier, meaning you can visit the most famous street in Britain as easily as you’d like.
