The London Eye
This graceful cantilevered construction has become the UK's most popular tourist attraction. It provides panoramic views of London from the banks of the River Thames.
If you want to experience the largest Ferris wheel in Europe, you should seek London Vacation Rentals without further ado. When it opened in 1999, The London Eye was the largest observation wheel in the world.
There are of course innumerable tourist attractions tempting people from far and wide to seek London Vacation Rentals, but the London Eye is by far the most popular, visited by more than three million people each year.
Situated in Jubilee Gardens on the banks of the River Thames in Central London, the London Eye, or Millennium Wheel as it’s sometimes called, has 32 air-conditioned, egg-shaped glass and steel gondolas or ‘pods’ around its circumference, each one capable of holding 25 people. Up to 15,000 people a day ‘do the round’ on the London Eye.
A single revolution takes 30 minutes, during which passengers will be treated to the most breathtaking panoramas of the city (you can move freely about inside the pod, gazing out over points north, south, east and west).
Visitors who want to see magnificent aerial views of virtually all the most splendid London landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament, Whitehall, St Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London and many, many others, should make a point of taking a turn on the London Eye. You can see for up to 25 miles on a clear day, and city breaks from London Vacation Rentals would simply be incomplete without a visit to this iconic landmark.
The London Eye is open every day from 10.00am to 6.00pm, November to March, and from 9.00am to late evening between April and October. You can buy tickets at the venue on a first-come, first served basis, but it’s probably wiser to book them online ahead of your visit. A ‘flight’ booked online costs £25.30 for adults, children, students and senior citizens alike. The closest rail stations (both of which are underground and mainline) are Waterloo and Charing Cross, and Bus Routes 77, 211 and 381 all stop at the Eye. If you’re planning an excursion from your London Vacation Rentals, plan a visit to the London Eye, too.
