Sants Railway Station
Sants Railway Station (Estacio de Sants) is the main railway station in Barcelona, operated by the state-owned RENFE. It is Barcelona’s most important transportation hub, providing rail links within the city as well as to national and international destinations. For those staying in our holiday rentals, Barcelona Sants station provides easy access to other parts of the city as well as for onward travel.
Barcelona Sants station was developed in the 1970s, alongside the construction of the east-west line which runs beneath the city centre. The station has since replaced the Franca station (built in the 1920s) as Barcelona’s main railway hub. Construction continues to this day as the modern station continues to grow.
The station has all the facilities one would expect of a modern terminal. There is a tourist office on hand to answer any questions, a handful of cash machines and a pharmacy. When passing through the station from our holiday rentals, Barcelona Sants has a number of eateries (including MacDonalds!) and cafes to help pass the time. There are also various gift shops, a large newsagent, as well as shops and games to keep children happy.
If looking to hire a car for your stay in our holiday rentals, Barcelona car rental services (Europcar, Avis car hire and National Atesa) can be found at the rear of the station. From Tuesdays to Thursdays (during the day), an art fair can also be found behind the station. The stalls here sell mostly jewellery and some items can be found at very good prices. Having a browse here is another good way to pass time between trains.
The station is located at the end of Avinguda Roma in the Sants-Montjuic district of Barcelona, northwest of the city centre. The station is easy to reach from all of our holiday rentals, Barcelona Sants being such an important transportation hub. Taking the metro is perhaps the easiest way to reach the station from our holiday rentals; Barcelona Sants is served by the Green Line (L3) and the Blue Line (L5).
Plenty of buses and taxis serve the station and there is an international bus terminal next door to the railway station. Parking can be found at the station if arriving by car. Train tickets can be bought online 62 days in advance by visiting the RENFE website: www.renfe.es. This website is only available in Spanish.
