Fine Dining Raises Money For Barcelona Charities

Hungry holidaymakers have flocked to Barcelona in recent days.

For tourists and locals alike are enjoying fine dining at a snippet of the price, as part of a drive to raise money for charity.

Barcelona Restaurant Week has seen 34 top restaurants fix their menus at 25 euro (£20.54) per person excluding beverages. One euro of every meal will go to the Spanish Heart Foundation and the ONCE Guide Dog Foundation.

Proceeds for the Spanish Heart Foundation will be dedicated to promoting research and the development of cardiovascular disease prevention campaigns.

Meanwhile, the ONCE Guide Dog Foundation will use its proceeds to promote the incorporation of restaurant menus in Braille, as well as looking at ways to facilitate the entry of guide dogs in pubs.

The concept, which was born in New York nearly 17 years ago, makes fine dining accessible to those who would not otherwise have been able to afford the experience.

Participating restaurants in Barcelona include Casa Fuster's; Galaxo; Windsor; Alba Paris; Torre d'Alta Mar; Icho; Alba Granados; La Terraza deClaris; Quo Vadis; Cent Onze and Jardinets de Gracia.

Some new additions include Visual; Comiols; Murmur; Loidi; Petit Committee; Osmosis; Caesar Pastor and 4 Capellans.

From rigatoni stuffed with seasonal mushrooms, to scallops with shrimp sauce, visitors will be able to indulge in top-class dining at a bargain price.

Some of the chefs have even been awarded a Michelin star.

Restaurant Week is celebrated every year in some of the world's leading cities, including New York, Miami, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro and London. The idea has spread to more than 100 cities across the globe.

Barcelona will be hosting its third addition of Barcelona Restaurant Week until April 22.

Over the first and second year of running the initiative, more than 15,000 euro were donated to the sponsoring charities.
