When to visit Amsterdam

Extreme weather is not a feature of Amsterdam, making it an all-year-round destination. High season is April through September (April/May for the tulip season) and December. Low season is during January and February; and shoulder season is October/November and March, you may need to wrap-up warmer but great special offers can be found outside of the high season. In summer: enjoy the gardens, markets and canals. In winter: enjoy ice skating, Chinese New Year at Nieuwmarkt, and great deals in the January sales.

Getting to and around Amsterdam

Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport is only about 14 kilometres from the city and has an excellent rail link. International rail links from other European destinations and international busses and ferries are viable options for European travellers. The best ways to get around are on the trams (consider OV-chipcards for unlimited travel on trams, busses and metros) or by hiring a bike. Busses and the metro come into their own only if you are headed for the suburbs.
