Amsterdamse Bos
Amsterdamse Bos, also known as Amsterdam Forest, is a huge park located just outside of Amsterdam. The park is based upon the typical English park, meaning it has heaps of space for you to explore in a beautiful and tranquil environment. Amsterdamse Bos also has an array of activities to do, including water sports in its lakes, an artificial mountain to climb and an outdoor theatre. The park covers 10,000 hectares, making it even bigger than Bois de Boulogne in Paris and an excellent day out from one of our
Amsterdam apartments.
The park was artificially created and partly opened in 1937, before the entire park was opened when it was all eventually completed in 1964. As the park was based on the traditional English park, the emphasis is very much on the serene surroundings, though there is still plenty to do and activities to try in such a huge area. Maintenance work is constantly on-going, ensuring the park stays in excellent condition.
The water sports within the park include rowing and swimming in its lakes, with children areas of the waters also available. Alternatively, you can rent pedal boats or canoes to get around. The theatre is open throughout the summer and shows classic Shakespeare plays, with tickets priced at 5 euros. There are two cheese farms within the park for you to visit, or you can simply choose to go for a relaxing walk or a peaceful bike ride; the choice truly is up to you.
When visiting from one of our
Amsterdam apartments, it is worth remembering that there is no admission fee into the park and parking is also completely free. The park is a fantastic day out with a great range of activities, ensuring there is something for everyone in this vast woodland area.
