Anne Frank House

A museum of remembrance and emotion.

The Anne Frank House in Amsterdam is one of the Netherlands most powerful and emotionally charged historical museums. Anne Frank and her family lived in the annex of the building at Prinsengracht 263, where they hid from Nazi persecution for over two years. It was here that Anne Frank wrote her diaries; the original diary is still held in the museum.

Apartments in Amsterdam are ideal for exploring all that this magnificent city has to offer. For those interested in history and the powerful story of Anne Frank, a trip to the Anne Frank House is essential.

Anne Frank and her family moved in to their hiding place in July 1942. The doorway to the annex was concealed behind a bookcase, and here the Frank family (along with the Van Pels) stayed until 1944. They were brought food and supplies during their stay, never leaving the concealed annex until their betrayal and arrest on August 4 1944. All of the inhabitants were deported to concentration camps and only Anne’s father, Otto, survived the war.

The building at Prinsengracht 263 was officially opened as a museum in 1960. For those visiting from Apartments in Amsterdam, the house and museum offer a unique insight into the life of Anne Frank during this period. The rooms are quite empty yet still retain a distinct and powerful atmosphere. Historical documents, photographs, and objects left in the house are all on display, helping to bring both the period and the inhabitants of the building to life. Anne Frank’s original diary is kept on display in the museum.

The building at Prinsengracht 263 is located in the centre of Amsterdam, approximately 20 minutes on foot from Central Station. Trams and buses also arrive nearby at the Westermarkt bus stop, making the Anne Frank House easy to reach from Apartments in Amsterdam.

The museum is open daily from 9.00am until 7.00pm, although in the summer season the closing time is extended until 9.00pm (sometimes 10.00pm). For further information have a look at the Anne Frank House website at www.annefrank.org. In order to avoid standing in line, the best time to visit the museum is during the late afternoon when there are fewer visitors.

Tickets can be bought at the museum or online. Buying advanced tickets online is a convenient option for those staying in Apartments in Amsterdam as this helps to avoid the queues at the museum entrance. Tickets cost €9.00 for adults, €4.50 for young people (10-17 years) and €0.50 for children up to 10 years of age.
