The Jordaan Street Festival
The Jordaan Festival is a street party held annually in Amsterdam in celebration of the district’s deep history. Now considered a trendy and affluent area with tourists and locals, this was not always its reputation. In the 1970’s, Jordaan was a working class district, and locals would take to the streets each year to demonstrate the Jordaan spirit. The festival now takes place every year in the third weekend of September, hosting a 3-day street party at the Marnixstraat.
Thousands of locals and tourists come in great spirits to watch Dutch musicians perform opera, drum pieces, cabaret and mass sing-alongs. By day, the Jordaan Festival hosts a popular flea market and auction. By night, alcohol flows freely and visitors take to the streets to sing, dance and party. The festival is great for children with various games and boules competitions going on. The Jordaan Festival is a great event for tourists to experience the Dutch capital’s vibrant party atmosphere and to mingle with locals.
Make sure you visit the Jordaan Festival when staying in your Amsterdam vacation rental. You can search for Amsterdam apartments within the charming Jordaan district, or for those apartments close to the Jordaan Festival.
