Renowned for its collections of both historic and contemporary art, it’s not surprising that Amsterdam hosts one of the most recognised art fairs specialising in the movement of contemporary realism. Now in its 9th year, Amsterdam’s Realism Art Fair is well worth a visit when staying in Amsterdam holiday apartments.

You may have no intention of purchasing a piece from the 24 galleries exhibiting works from many established and emerging, Dutch and international artists, however the fair is simply a great visit just to appreciate the spectacular displays. Works of emerging artists are judged at the Amsterdam Realism Art Fair and the winner recognised with an award.

In addition to the array of paintings and sculptures on display, many of the galleries exhibiting at the Amsterdam Art Fair are presenting free lectures and sponsoring workshops, to display the techniques required to create pieces of realistic art.

If you are travelling to Amsterdam to appreciate its many fine museums and art galleries, then why not compliment the trip with a visit to the Amsterdam Realism Art Fair, and mingle with artists and professionals within the industry. Admission is priced at €12, and €8 for students and those aged over 65. The 2012 dates are from the 19th-22nd January, with the venue being the New Passenger Terminal in Amsterdam. The venue is accessible from most Amsterdam holiday apartments by taking Tram 26, which stops outside of the New Passenger Terminal, or from Amsterdam’s Central Station on the northern route.
